About and methodology

Renewal Scout answers one question: what changed in your IT vendor licensing, and what to do before renewal.

It is written from 26 years as an IT director and consultant. Comparisons are not written by the vendors.

What an entry contains

Each sourced row stores the vendor, product, a summary, the previous price, the new price, the announced date, the effective date, a source link, and a note on what to do before renewal. A missing price stays missing. The briefing says the previous price was not in the source, or it quotes the percent the source gave. It does not invent a dollar figure. When both prices are monthly amounts, the page shows the percent the source recorded, or a percent calculated from those two prices, and the difference for 50 users over a year.

Rows that are one announcement are one briefing. The July 1, 2026 Microsoft commercial update is one story with a price table. The VMware core-minimum change and the same-day reversal are one story with both sources. Briefings are grouped by vendor and sorted by effective date.

Direction (up, down, unchanged, changed) is classified from the row’s own summary and price text. It is not a separate fact.

Sources

Every change page links the source URL stored with the row. Read that page before you treat a figure as your quote. List price is not your partner price.
